Maynard, MA - At 8:00 PM, I went to the polling place, at the Fowler Middle School, to report on the results of the election. Within a few minutes after the polls had closed, the Assistant Town Clerk posted the tally strips on the doors to the room, printed out directly by the ballot box computers for each of the four precincts (see photos at right). I took a close up of the strip from precinct 4 to show what they look like in detail.
I copied down the numbers from each of the 4 strips by hand (the other three were taped to the other doors).
Meanwhile, the poll workers were going through the process of counting and recording all the check ins, numbers of ballots from inside the machines to confirm the counts, and so forth, according to proper procedure. I drove back to my office to enter the numbers into a spreadsheet to calculate the totals. I created a PDF of that, which you can download, using the "Download File" link, below.
I want to emphasize that what is shown here are preliminary, unofficial results. What I have does not include the few write-in votes cast, nor have these numbers been confirmed by the formal process of ballot counting and validation that takes place long after the polls close, as shown in the photos above.
